Renault launches the new 1.0 SCe (Smart Control Efficiency) engines for the Sandero and Logan line and 1.6 SCe for Sandero, Logan, Duster and Duster Oroch. Developed by Renault Tecnologia Américas (RTA) and produced in the Ayrton Senna Complex, in Paraná, the new engines stand out for the low consumption, greater performance and pleasure when driving. Sandero and Logan are already on sale with the new engines. Duster and Duster Oroch come to be equipped with the novelty from the second half of December.
The 1.0 SCe 12V three-cylinder engine features innovations such as variable valve timing on intake and exhaust, unprecedented technology among inboard engines. All aluminum, is 20 kg lighter than its predecessor. The 1.6 SCe 16V four-cylinder engine features variable valve timing on the intake, injectors positioned on the cylinder head and other innovations that ensure high efficiency and good performance. Also in aluminum, it is 30 kg lighter.
Renault takes advantage of the know-how acquired on the tracks of Formula 1, a category in which the brand has already won 12 world titles to ensure maximum efficiency of its new engines. From the tracks came ESM (Energy Smart Management) technology and the oil pump with variable flow, which reduce fuel consumption. Another novelty is the adoption of the electro-hydraulic steering in all versions, which improves consumption and increases and represents an evolution in terms of comfort.
The 1.6 SCe engine also features the Stop & Start system, which shuts off the car automatically at traffic lights or other stops. This modern system, very common in high-end cars, guarantees savings of up to 5% in fuel and is available on the Sandero and Logan models. Models equipped with the Easy'R automated gearbox now offer stability control (ESP) and ramp start assist (HSA), providing more safety.
The new 1.0 SCe engine leaves Sandero and Logan up to 19% more economical. With the 1.6 SCe, the economy is up 21%. Hatch and sedan equipped with the new engines and manual gearbox are highlights of the Brazilian Vehicle Labeling Program (PBEV) with "A" note. Duster and Duster Oroch equipped with the 1.6 SCe are up to 18% and 16% more efficient, respectively.
TECHNOLOGY TO REDUCE FUEL CONSUMPTION
Renault's engineering has added new technologies to achieve maximum fuel economy. No 1.0 SC and variable piston rings (VVT) are coated in DLC (Diamond Like Carbon), a carbon compound with very high hardness properties because of its diamond-like structure (hence the inspiration for its name).
In 1.6 SCe, these elements are PVD (Physical Vapor Deposition). These coatings reduce engine friction and wear, and contribute to better energy efficiency. Both the DLC and the PVD are solutions that have emerged on the Formula One racetracks and now take to the streets.
The variable oil pump (1.0 SCe) is another solution that has emerged on race tracks and reaches the street cars. It automatically adjusts the oil flow sent according to engine speed and load. As a result, the engine absorbs less energy and therefore becomes more economical.
New in the whole range 1.0 SCe and 1.6 SCe, the ESM (Energy Smart Management) system of regeneration of energy already equips Duster and Duster Oroch with motor 2.0 since half of the year. The operation is simple and efficient: during the deceleration of the car, when the driver withdraws his foot from the accelerator, the engine continues to rotate without consuming fuel. At that point, the alternator automatically starts to recover energy and send it to the battery, which increases its load without fuel consumption. During acceleration, the alternator does not have to "steal" motor power to send to the battery, since there was the load on the deceleration. This system guarantees consumption up to 2% less.
Another novelty is the adoption of the electro-hydraulic steering. For the driver, this represents an even lighter direction and less effort when performing maneuvers. The variable-effort steering still adjusts for speed, getting heavier at higher speeds and providing greater safety. As in this system the steering pump is activated by a separate electric motor, and not by the car engine, it avoids the loss of power and reduces fuel consumption by up to 3%.
The Stop & Start system, exclusive to the 1.6 SCe engine from Sandero and Logan, automatically shuts off the engine when the vehicle is in traffic / congestion. And it automatically restarts when the driver starts pressing the clutch pedal, saving up to 5% fuel. The system can be activated / deactivated as required by the driver by means of a button to the left of the steering wheel.
To maximize economic performance, the models equipped with Media NAV 2.0 feature the Eco-Coaching functions, which assess the driver's behavior at the end of a course.
